Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy welcome a son

Claire Danes and husband Hugh Dancy welcomed their first son, Cyrus Michael Christopher, on December 17.

A rep for the couple confirmed the exciting news to Us Weekly Wednesday.

Dancy opted to reveal the news to friends and family via e-mail on Tuesday, Page Six reports. In the e-mail Dancy explained that 7-pound Cyrus arrived “at exactly 3p.m.”

“Mother and baby are well, healthy and happy, and together we send our love to you all,” he added.

Cyrus and Dancy met and fell in love in 2006 on the set of Evening; they wed three years later in 2009 Us Weekly notes.

The two announced their pregnancy in July, People reports. Danes discusses pregnancy and life as a new mom in the upcoming issue.

The Homeland actress and her husband long kept her pregnancy a secret; the two also struggled to keep the baby’s gender mum. Danes is expected to attend the Golden Globes Awards Jan. 13 in which she has been nominated for her role in Homeland, but has yet to confirm her attendance.
