Sir Paul McCartney is set to sub in as Nirvana lead singer Kurt Cobain after Dave Grohl requested the former Beatles singer. However, despite the excitement of a semi-Nirvana reunion, noticeably upset by the collaboration is Cobain’s widow, Courtney Love who is not sold on the idea of McCartney subbing in.
News of McCartney’s addition to the set surfaced Wednesday; as we previously reported, the collaboration has been kept quiet as McCartney, Grohl and Krist Novoselic have been practicing in secret.
An unimpressed Love chimed in on the idea, telling TMZ that she is “not amused” by McCartney’s joining of the former Nirvana band.
"Look, if John were alive it would be cool,” she added noting McCartney’s former band mate John Lennon, who was killed 32 years ago this month.
Additionally, Love is not keen on the idea of the performance being called a “Nirvana Reunion” as she believes her late husband was the heart of the band. TMZ notes that the three will be playing a song they wrote together and it is uncertain if they will break out any old-school Nirvana hits.
