Not all of Hollywood’s hottest are spending their time streaming candy-colored lights along their rooftops and sniffing the scent of fresh-baked gingerbread cookies. David Arqette and Zoey Deschanel spent their weekend lighting menorahs, playing driedl, and eating potato latkes.
On Sunday Arquette was given the honor of lighting a 10-foot tall, 800 pound ice menorah sculpture at L.A. Live in Los Angeles, according to Yahoo.com. Rabbi Cunin of Chabad of California stood beside Arquette during the ceremony.
Born by a Jewish mother, Arquette did not fully submerse himself in his Jewish heritage until age 40 when he was bar mitzvahed, a ritual commonly occurring at age 13, according to the L.A. Times.
Even though Deschanel was raised Roman Catholic, she was there to celebrate the Jewish holiday with some of her close Jewish friend and co-founder of website hellogiggles.com, Sophia Rossi. Quite the celebrator, the New Girl star tweeted. a picture of her lighting the menorah with the caption, “Happy Chanukah y'all.”
