Donald Trump’s Miss USA pageant has won the $5 million legal battle against ex-Miss Pennsylvania Sheena Monnin.
Monnin alleged that the pageant was rigged when she competed last summer, claiming she saw someone with a list of the top 5 winners even before they were announced.
At the time, she called the Miss Universe Organization “fraudulent, lacking in morals, inconsistent and in many ways trashy,” Page Six reports.
Trump then filed an arbitration action against Monnin on behalf of the organization and last week, US District Court Magistrate Judge Theodore H. Katz awarded the organization $5 million on the basis that Monnin defamed it.
Katz said Monnin’s “false” allegations “showed a reckless disregard.”
“We cannot allow a disgruntled contestant to make false and reckless statements which are damaging to the many people who have devoted their hearts and souls to the Miss Universe, Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageant systems,” Trump said after the ruling.
E! Online reports the Miss Universe Pageant will take place on Wednesday.
