Rapper Drake wants a piece of the YOLO pie, stating that such retail outlets as Macy’s and Walgreens need to stop selling shirts with the shortened phrase or pay him royalties.
According to E! News, the former DeGraassi actor is often credited with shortening the phrase, “You Only Live Once,” and has taken to Instagram to state his case.
“Walgreens....you gotta either chill or cut the cheque,” he wrote after posting a photograph of hats with the phrase pasted on the front.
Additionally, he snapped a photo of a Charlie Brown t-shirt with “YOLO” written across the front posting it on Instagram as well writing, “Macy's...same goes for you.”
E! also states that such sites as Knowyourmeme proclaim that the rapper is not the first person to use the phrase, “YOLO,” noting that Adam Marsh from NBC’s, The Average Joe, first used the phrase. He also released the clothing line “You Only Live Once” in March 2004.
