On Friday, Ford Motor Company announced that it is recalling certain models of their Fusion and Escape. This recall is addressing concerns over engine problems that can result in leaks and even spark a fire.
According to Slash Gear, more than 70,000 Escapes and nearly 16,000 2013 Fusions have been recalled. Only models sold in the United States and Canada are being recalled. The SEL and SE versions of the Escape and the SEL and SE versions with the 1.6 liter engine of the Fusion are the specific models being recalled.
“We have identified an issue and are taking actions in the best interest of our customers. It is important that affected customers not ignore this recall and contact their dealer as soon as possible. While we recognize the inconvenience recalls cause our customers, we are taking these actions on their behalf to help ensure their safety,” Ford said in a statement.
According to the Associated Press, owners can contact their dealer and receive a temporary car to use while a long term solution is created.
Ford spokesman Said Deep said that there were 12 fires in Escapes and one in a Fusion, although no injuries have been reported.
