Even though the ratings have been dipping for Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance, the network has opted to pick up the reality competition series for a tenth season.
SYTYCD averaged 6.8 million viewers and a 2.6 rating in the key 18-49 demographic during its last season over the summer, notes Entertainment Weekly. It is not known if host Cat Deeley and judges Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy will be returning. The show usually features guest judges throughout the audition process. It’s likely that the network will not make an announcement on the judges until live episodes begin.
“I couldn’t be more proud of the amazing work that Nigel and the entire So You Think You Can Dance team has done over the past nine seasons. This show is truly one of the most compelling series on television and I can’t wait to bring it back for Season 10,” Fox President of Alternative Entertainment Mike Darnell said in a statement, reports Deadline.
Lythgoe created the series with Simon Fuller, who both co-executive produce with Allen Shapiro. The show is a 19 Entertainment production.
A premiere date for the new season has not been announced.
The first auditions will take place in Austin, Texas on Jan. 18, followed by more in Detroit (Feb. 11), Boston (Feb. 21), Memphis (March 18) and LA (March 22).
