Has everyone recovered from the identity of Gossip Girl after the series finale? After a not so great season, the last episode does a great job of tying the pieces together, especially following the death of Bart Bass. In order to make sure Blair does not have to testify against Chuck in court, Jack suggests that the two get married. With not a moment to lose, Chuck proposes to Blair and the long awaited Chair wedding happens. It was rather brief and rushed, but it had to be one of the sweetest moments for the pair. In addition, Serena almost leaves New York after Dan’s article on her, but after reading the nicer version, she stays. Shortly after, Dan hands his final chapter titled Gossip Girl to Nate in order to publish in the Spectator and it’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for.
The reactions of the main cast including those that have been long gone (Vanessa, Jenny, Eric, Jack, Juliet) were priceless and in a sense, many of us should have seen this coming. Not to mention, having Kristen Bell and Rachel Bilson guest starring was splendid in itself. Dan Humphrey a.k.a. Lonely Boy is Gossip Girl and this episode does a great job at explaining how it is possible. The flashback of when Dan first met Serena in high school along with the rest of the gang gave us a chance to see the crew as they were five years ago and it juxtaposes nicely with their lives five years later.
Chuck and Blair have a son (their marriage before the five years was quick, but very sweet). Lily has gotten back with William. Rufus and Lisa are together. Nate has become a successful businessman. Jack and Georgina are an item. Ivy writes an autobiography that ends up starring Olivia and Lola, and Dan and Serena are getting married. Eric and Jenny are present at the ceremony and the series ends with a snapshot of the new generation of Manhattan’s elite. The Gossip Girl website is officially gone after Dan revealed his identity, but there is a chance that someone else will bring it back one day.
I’m a little sad that the series has finally come to an end, but I’m glad that it ended on a good note. Without further ado, we bid goodbye to Gossip Girl. Please feel free to leave any final comments about the last episode.
Note: I’ll be compiling a list of clues that have given us hints that Dan was Gossip Girl all along. Be on the lookout for it!
