The mid-season finale ends with a Christmas themed episode, where we get a small explanation to how Crazy Earl became crazy. To add to the Christmas festivity, Zoe’s mom comes into town and Zoe is afraid of being judged, so she tries her best to not have any alone time with her. In her attempts to ward off her mom, Zoe unintentionally sends the Santa Claus of Bluebell away on Christmas Eve. Lavon had plans to propose to Ruby, but with Santa out of the picture, there’s no way of it happening because the Christmas tree event will be canceled. Zoe digs her brain to find a solution to the mess she created and this is where Crazy Earl comes into the picture since he used to be the guy who dresses up as Santa Claus. As Earl is preparing to do the Christmas gig, Wade comes over and reprimands Zoe for allowing his father to take part in the festivity. When Earl goes missing later and Wade seeks him out for Zoe, she finds out that the last time Earl was Santa Claus, his wife had passed away. After Wade comforts his father and encourages him that he can redeem himself this year, Zoe tells Wade that she wished Wade had told her more about his background.
Meanwhile, Lemon attempts to be nice to Ruby after Lavon requests her to do so. Things go smoothly at first, but Ruby’s continuance to gloat about her relationship with Lavon causes Lemon to lash out at her. In the spur of the moment, Lemon reveals to Ruby that she, and not Ruby, was the love of Lavon’s life. Angry at Lavon for not telling her the truth, Ruby declines his marriage proposal and breaks up with him at the end of the episode. Lavon, in turn, finds Lemon and tells her he will never forgive her for what she did. It’s rather unfortunate that they broke up on Christmas Eve, but it’s not all sadness that lingers in Bluebell as there are lots of new couples for the New Year. Also, Zoe’s mom confronts Zoe about her lies earlier in the episode, but after a long awaited mother-daughter talk, all is forgiven. Zoe finally talks to her mom about boys and this is when she realizes that she is in love with Wade. Zoe soon makes her way over to Wade’s and knowing how it was her fault earlier for pushing him away, asks him to be her real boyfriend. Wade doesn’t waste a second and walks over and plants a kiss on Zoe.
How did everyone feel about this episode? I personally loved it because Zoe is finally honest with herself and giving her and Wade a try. Other than that, I really like George and Tansy together as well. The Brick and Shelby hookup was pretty random, but I suppose Dr. Breeland is trying to fix his broken heart. We’ll have to see where things will pick up in the New Year.
The next Hart of Dixie episode will return Tuesday, January 15, 2013.
