How I Met Your Mother has been renewed for its ninth and final season.
As we previously reported, speculation surrounded if the season would get the green light for a ninth as creators Craig Thomas and Carter Bays awaited to have their licenses renewed, which was requested to be fulfilled by the end of the month.
Now, Collider reports that How I Met Your Mother has been locked in for a final season, which means fans will have to wait until 2014 to find out who Ted Mosby’s wife and mother to his children is.
According to Deadline, much of the hit sitcom's fate rested on the shoulders of Jason Segel, who was ready to move on from playing Marshall Erikson. However, in the last minute of negotiations he opted to stay and move along with the storyline for one final season.
Segel reportedly “decided to bail and leave the cast hanging. But he just got turned around today at the last second. The show was literally dead.”
Additionally, show creators had a plan as to how to end the show should their licenses not be reached or if the cast opted to leave.
HIMYM fans rejoice, the show will return from winter break in 2013 and move along well into 2014!
