Jennifer Lawrence has had one heck of a year. Following her role as Katniss in the breakout Hunger Games film based on the Suzanne Collins trilogy, she also took on roles in House at the End of the Street and Silver Linings Playbook. Now, she is gracing the cover of Marie Claire South Africa, where she talks body image and her New Year’s resolutions.
“My New Year's Resolution is to stand up for myself. It's hard for me. Nobody wants to be disliked. You always want to be polite and be nice. I tried to find a balance in saying what I mean and still being nice. I can't do it. I have this ‘okay' attitude and everything. I end up allowing myself to get walked over and resenting it,” she explains.
In the interview, Lawrence also reiterated her belief that it’s important to appear real on screen. She previously stated that she wants her younger audience to look up to her and want to be like Katniss, a normal looking woman as opposed to the stigma struck pencil thin actresses many see in Hollywood today.
She stands strong on that fact, explaining in her Marie Claire interview, "I'd rather look chubby on screen and like a person in real life."
Lawrence appears on the January 2013 issue, on sale now.
