Tragedy has struck the NFL as Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher killed his girlfriend and then went to practice where he shot himself.
According to Gawker, the NFL has confirmed that 25-year-old Belcher traveled to practice after killing his girlfriend in her home. He met with coaches in the parking lot of Arrowhead Stadium before taking his own life.
Kansas City Star reports that Belcher, 25, got into a heated argument with his girlfriend around 8 a.m. and he shot her multiple times. The 22-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The shooting was witnessed by his mother who called the police. After Belcher appeared at the stadium, he was met by General Manager Scott Piolli and Coach Romeo Crennel who attempted to keep Belcher busy so as to not harm anyone else, the report states. However, shortly after police arrived, they heard a gunshot and found the young linebacker dead due to a gunshot to the head.
The Kansas City Chiefs released a statement saying,“We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning. We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation."
