Keeping Up with the Kardashians star Kim Kardashian made an appearance in Bahrain for Millions of Milkshakes on Saturday, and witnesses say that protests occurred before she got there, prompting riot police to throw tear gas into the crowd.
Ahead of her appearance to promote the milkshake franchise, about 100 anti-Kim Kardashian Sunni Salafists stood outside with signs protesting her arrival.
According to The New York Daily News, a local newspaper said it was her “bad reputation” that started the rioting, and what ultimately made them try to stop her from making the appearance all together.
Although there were thousands of screaming fans happy to see the reality star inside The Walk Bahrain, where the Millions of Milkshakes shop was, police resorted to using stun grenades to get the protestors to stop rioting, according to local newspapers.
However, CNN reports that the founder of Millions of Milkshakes, Sheeraz Hasan, has denied these reports.
"WHAT PROTESTS?? Kim Kardashian loved by the people of Bahrain & wants to return!!” he tweeted on Sunday.

There haven’t been any confirmations of the tear gas grenades being used, all reports so far are only referring to a “local newspaper” reporting on it.
