Kristen Wiig may be the new addition to the cast of Will Ferrell’s anticipated Anchorman: The Legend Continues.
Sources close to the situation told The Wrap that the former Saturday Night Live actress, who has since started a successful movie career, is in talks to play a possible love interest opposite Steve Carell.
The site notes that the script for the film is still being written and no other cast beyond those returning has been set.
The sequel to Ferrell and Adam McKay’s Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy had been in the works at Paramount for years, but finally got off the ground earlier this year. Ferrell appeared as his character, the sexist, self-centered Ron Burgundy, on Conan in March to announce the film and teaser trailers were released in May.
Carell, Paul Rudd and David Koechner will be back, as will Christina Applegate. McKay is slated to direct again.
As for Wiig, last year’s Bridesmaids helped make her one of the top in-demand actresses in Hollywood. She recently appeared in the indie film Imogene and is slated to star in Ben Stiller’s The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and Hateship Friendship with Guy Pearce. Wiig is also working on Sean Penn’s The Comedian, which will star Robert De Niro.
She also earned an Oscar nomination for co-writing Bridesmaids.
