LeAnn Rimes is responding to backlash she’s received from her X Factor performance alongside finalist Carly Rose Sonenclar last night.
Some critics suggested she might have been drunk, often stumbling over words and slurring at times.
Rimes has now responded, instead turning it around on Sonenclar and denying she was impaired.
"I was trying to help this 13-year-old girl who was having some trouble with the song,” she told TMZ.
Larry Stein, Rimes’ lawyer, also told the website "LeAnn was not performing the way she would normally perform, because she was on stage with a young girl."
Rimes is stunned at people who believe she was drunk, but Stein thinks it’s because "There have been a lot of untrue things said by others and it feeds into this sort of thing."
Usually pretty active on Twitter, Rimes hasn’t responded to any of the negative press from the show on the social networking site.
Sources do tell TMZ, however, that Rimes spilled a plate of food everywhere when she was backstage – which could support the notion that she was drunk during the performance.
