Madonna causes a stir over smoking at concert in Chile

By Slater Katz,

Madonna is known for her passionate ideals, but her fervor against smoking caused a stir in the production of her concert at Chile's National Stadium on Wednesday.

During the sound check, Madonna lashed out to her Santiago followers saying, "There are people smoking here. No smoking! If you're going to smoke cigarettes, I'm not going to do my show," reports TMZ.

The L.A. Times reports local Chilean newspaper, El Mercucio, quoted Madonna saying, "You're looking right at me and smoking cigarettes, as if I were a [expletive] idiot.”

The Chilean population extended their voice on the situation. One hundred and four people commented. Some were appalled by the outburst: "I give thanks to bands like Iron Maiden that respect us as a public the six times they have performed in my country;" some ran to her defense: "Madonna was totally in the right," one wrote. "If someone comes to my house and blows smoke in my face, it's a lack of respect."
