Director Marc Webb confirmed on Twitter Monday that Chronicle star Dane DeHaan has been cast to play the key role of Harry Osborn in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Meanwhile, Jamie Foxx has confirmed that he will play Electro, the film’s villain.
On Twitter, Webb simply wrote, “Meet Harry Osborn. @danedehaan.” He also included a picture of the actor.
DeHaan shared his excitement on his Twitter page, writing, “To say I'm excited is an understatement. #HarryOsborn #ASM2.” In a second tweet, he wrote to his fans, “All this love is makin' me feel all tingly inside. Thanks ya'll.#HarryOsborn #ASM2.”
Earlier this month, Variety reported that Foxx was in talks to play Electro, a character that was first introduced in 1964. Foxx appeared to confirm Variety’s report, tweeting, “Dressed up as Electro for Halloween last night. Costume fits well.”
Foxx spoke with Entertainment Tonight on Monday, confirming that he has started to work on the film.
“Electro is a great character,” the Django Unchained star said. “I met with the director, Marc Webb, I met with Andrew Garfield, and we talked. … I think Electro will be an exciting character to play because he's a … genius electrician-type person, and he gets the short end of the stick from the whole world, and the next thing you know he turns it on.”
Garfield and Emma Stone will be reprising their roles from The Amazing Spider-Man, while Shailene Woodley is reportedly in talks to play Mary Jane.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will hit theaters on May 2, 2014 and will be released in 2D and 3D.
