Monkey runs amuck at Canadian Ikea

A pet monkey ran amuck in an Ikea parking lot.

According to The Huffington Post a monkey dressed in a winter coat was seen running around a Toronto Ikea parking lot.

It was not long before the monkey became an internet sensation. Twitter accounts were made in the animal’s honor and one account is reported to have over 1,700 followers.

A reporter for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Bronwyn Page, was there to witness the antics.

"We saw a crowd of people surrounding a small animal, and we quickly realized it was a monkey wearing a coat and a diaper. That was pretty bizarre,” Page said in a radio interview.

Toronto police believe that the monkey found a way to escape the cage it was in inside the owner's car.

"Nobody got hurt," Staff Sergeant Ed Dzingala said. "The monkey was a little scared, that's all.

According to The Guardian the pet monkey is an illegal species for that region of Canada.

The police brought the monkey in to animal services where the owner was charged with owning a prohibited animal. The monkey is said be to released to an animal sanctuary.
