MTV renews 'Catfish: The TV Show' for a second season

By Kristen Porricelli,

MTV has announced that Nev and Max will return to the network because Catfish: The TV Show has been renewed for a second season.

The reality series is based on the 2010 documentary Catfish. Nev Schulman and filmmaker Max Joseph help individuals find out if the people they've met online are really who they claim to be, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"Catfish: The TV Show has truly captured the zeitgeist of the digital dating age. The show has resonated with our audience by portraying the real life journeys of individuals trying to navigate the highs and lows of online dating -– an experience our viewers can relate to. We are thrilled to bring the show back for a second season, and look forward to the fascinating stories that only Nev and Max can uncover," said Dave Sirulnick, Executive Vice President, MTV Multiplatform, as quoted by The Huffington Post.

Catfish: The TV Show's 11 p.m. series premiere in November was MTV's highest rated premiere ever for the hour and its 10 p.m. airings have been ranked among cable's top five Monday shows in the key adults demographic of 18-49.

The series will return with new episodes on January 7. The network, however, did not release news on how many episodes season two will have.
