NBC News anchor David Gregory, who currently hosts Meet The Press, is under police investigation for holding an illegal gun clip while on air during his interview with National Rifle Associated head Wayne LaPierre.
Washington Metropolitan Police Department officer and spokesman Araz Alali confirmed to Politico Tuesday that it is investigating the incident.
“There are D.C. code violations, D.C. code restrictions on guns, ammunition. We are investigating this matter. Beyond the scope of that, I can’t comment any further,” he told the site.
Conservatives and gun advocates criticized Gregory for holding the gun clip during the interview with LaPierre. According to The Huffington Post, many are citing a code that reads, “No person in the District shall possess, sell, or transfer any large capacity ammunition feeding device regardless of whether the device is attached to a firearm.”
The gun clip Gregory had in his hand appeared to be a 30-bullett magazine. Gregory asked LaPierre if he thought less children at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT would have died if gunman Adam Lanza didn’t have access to so many bullets.
Alali would not give any further information about its investigation. “It’s an investigation regarding the issue, this whole entire incident,” he told Politico.
NBC has yet to comment on the situation.
