Singer Nick Lachey was reportedly kicked out of an NFL game between the San Diego Chargers and the Cincinnati Bengals in San Diego Sunday after he tried to choke a fan who insulted his wife. While Lachey has gone to Twitter to confirm that he was kicked out, he has denied getting kicked out for excessive ‘trash talking.’
Lachey, a Bengals fan, tweeted, “Just got kicked out of the chargers stadium and couldn't be prouder! Go Cincy Bengals! #whodey.”
The Chargers fan told TMZ that Lachey and his friends had been trash talking the entire game. The fan’s wife said, “Well, he lasted longer than your boy band.”
Lachey then lashed out, calling her a “f**king b*tch” and “a host of other profanities,” the fan told TMZ.
At that point, the argument turned violent and the fan says Lachey lunged at his neck, trying to choke him. Security quickly responded and kicked Lachey out.
The former 98 Degrees singer admitted that something went on between him and one specific fan at the game. “Majority of charger fans were awesome yesterday, thanks for the hospitality! Sadly, there is always one guy that ruins it for everyone,” he wrote.
He continued, “For the record, i was not kicked out of the chargers game for excessive "trash talking". no, that honor belonged to the guy in front of me!...i simply don't appreciate someone turning around and putting their finger in my face. call me crazy, but that deserved a reaction....again, aside from a few exceptions, i had a great time hanging with Charger fans all afternoon. honestly, some of the nicest fans around.”
A rep for the singer also told TMZ, “This is a gross misrepresentation of what happened. It was nothing but a spirited debate between fans of opposing teams. At no point did Nick say anything derogatory to the man's wife and anything to suggest the contrary is simply untrue.”
Nevertheless, the accuser tells TMZ that he plans on filing a police report.
