Singer Norah Jones issued a simple statement on Wednesday, reflecting on her father Ravi Shankar’s death and what his work meant to his fans around the world.
“My Dad’s music touched millions of people. He will be greatly missed by me and music lovers everywhere,” the “Come Away With Me” singer said in a statement to The Wall Street Journal.
Jones is Shankar’s daughter from his relationship with American tour promoter Sue Jones, notes People. He didn’t play a major role in her life, although she talked about meeting him for the first time as an adult in an interview with CBS Sunday Morning in October.
Shankar died on Tuesday in Southern California at the age of 92. He was best known for popularizing Indian music around the world and was a close friend to former Beatle George Harrison. He was also a major influence on other rock acts, including The Rolling Stones and performed at Woodstock.
According to Rolling Stone, the Recording Academy stated Tuesday that he will receive a posthumous lifetime achievement Grammy on Feb. 9.
