Rosie O’Donnell is the latest name floating around as a possible replacement for Sharon Osbourne on NBC’s America’s Got Talent. The rumor that she is in talks with the network gained traction after a report suggested that she is Howard Stern’s top choice. Then, O’Donnell herself said that she would happily accept if she was offered.
“Rosie and Howard have had a tough past but now they are great friends,” the source said. “He thinks she is a great talent and will bring a new energy to that show.”
The site also spoke to a network insider, who said that NBC wants to keep Stern happy. “Just think what Rosie did when she joined The View -- suddenly the show became must-see TV again. At the moment, a list of names exists, but if it were solely up to Howard, Rosie would get the job,” the insider said.
The Observer caught up with O’Donnell, who said, “Next year there are some things on the horizon...I am very interested in doing America’s Got Talent with Howard Stern and I am talking to them. Let’s see how that works.”
However, an NBC spokesperson told Deadline that they haven’t approached her about judging AGT.
“NBC is not in talks with Rosie O’Donnell for America’s Got Talent and has no future plans for her to be a judge,” the spokesperson said. “She will be playing herself on an upcoming episode of Smash when Bombshell opens on Broadway.”
Stern replaced Piers Morgan for the 2012 AGT season, which was Osbourne’s last. She left after she fought with the network didn’t pick her son Jack to compete on Stars Earn Stripes.
AGT host Nick Cannon recently told Stern that he would like to see NBC get a really big star like Cher or Madonna.
