Russian iTunes serves up porn instead of music and videos

By Sarah Burbank-Douglas,

Apple announced its desire to launch iTunes software in over 50 new countries from Turkey to Russia. As exciting as the launch seems, many new users are complaining that, instead of finding what they were searching for, the site is overrun with pornography.

According to Huffington Post, the storefront was launched in Turkey, India, South Africa and Russia among many others.

iTunes was created for the purpose of easy, downloadable music, videos and more - but pornography was never a downloadable option.

HuffPo reports that iPhones.ru first reported the news of the glitch which occurs in the “More Films in Different Languages” section.

The report explains Apple developers used the placeholder “Xxx.xxx” and forgot to update the section, hence leaving a wide variety of pornographic material available.

According to additional reports, the NSFW material is currently being taken down and the versions recently released are down for maintenance.

Additionally, iTunes has updated the version currently available in the USA to Version 11 which reportedly offers new designs, speed improvements among others - but not adult images.

Apple cannot be reached for comment on the issue, HuffPo notes.

Whoops.
