Sam Donaldson, ABC News anchor, arrested on DUI charge

By Daniel S Levine,

Sam Donaldson, a veteran journalist at ABC News, was arrested on a drunk driving charge in Delaware earlier this month.

According to Delaware’s 105.9 FM News Talk, Lewes Police Chief Jeff Horvath said that Donaldson, 78, was pulled over on the night of Dec. 1 when an officer spotted him driving on the shoulder. He took a sobriety test, which he failed and was taken to a local police office to be booked. He was later released.

The respected political correspondent, who lives in northern Virginia, was completely cooperative through the entire process, Horvath said.

The Wrap reports that Donaldson has worked for ABC since 1967, although he retired full-time in 2009. He still makes frequent appearances on the network’s Sunday talk show This Week and is a contributor on ABC News Radio. He also contributes to other political shows for the network.

The network and Donaldson have not commented on the reports.

He will have to appear in court at a later date.
