Sharon Osbourne, who knows a thing or two about judging a reality show, defended Britney Spears’ performance on The X Factor. Her comments come as rumors surfaced that Spears will be fired after just one season.
According to National Monitor, Osbourne spoke with Heat magazine, saying that Spears was not the “train wreck” many think she was.
“People thought she was going to be a train wreck and she’s not,” she explained. “She’s a very nice girl – and she’s had a hell of a tough time.”
Osbourne, who wrapped up her last season as judge on NBC’s America’s Got Talent and also worked on the U.K. X Factor, continued, “All she has ever really done is work and make money for people...Now, she’s come to the age where she can take control of her life.”
Osbourne is close friends with Simon Cowell, the creator of The X Factor and an executive producer on AGT. She believes that she can “say anything” to Cowell, so she doesn’t expect to be slammed for praising Spears.
“I’ve gone past the ten-year mark with Simon, so I’m OK,” she told Heat, notes the Belfast Telegraph.
Rumors that Spears’ X Factor tenure will only last one season were sparked on Thursday when a show insider told Us Weekly that she will “get the boot.” Cowell had been disappointed with her performance, which failed to help the show’s ratings, the insider claimed.
