Two-time Olympic gold medalist Shaun White is giving an uncommon gift this holiday season: his hair.
The snowboarder, nicknamed the “Flying Tomato,” is known for his long, red locks. Tuesday White revealed on Facebook that he cut off his copper hair for Locks of Love, a charity that creates wigs for children who lost their hair from illnesses.
“I've been thinking about this one for a while, but it's for a good cause, so I'm going to do it," White said in the video according to Grind TV. "Somebody needs it more than I do.”
The snowboarder confessed that he didn’t tell anyone about his new hairstyle and that he wants to “mind freak” everyone.
On the video, White is visibly nervous about chopping off his locks, even at one point saying, “I'm still panicking.”
According to USA Today Locks of Love requires ponytails to be at least 10 inches to be made into a hairpiece and must have been cleaned recently.
White recently won the Dew Tour iON Mountain Championships, one of his first competitions after having surgery on the meniscus in his right knee. The snowboarder is planning to compete in the 2014 Sochi Olympics in Russia.
