Simon Cowell is commenting on the ratings dip that his show X Factor has experienced this season.
Cowell says they were “expecting” a decrease in ratings, simply because of the oversaturation of singing competition shows.
“We were expecting that there was going to be a problem with the ratings this year,” he told Access Hollywood about the 25 percent decrease the show has seen in viewers. “Not just with us, but with everything because it's overkill.”
He went on to say “We’re going into a new world now where Twitter, Facebook, the social media part of things are so important.”
Cowell also decided to focus on the positive side of it all, that they gained more viewers in the younger demographic. They certainly helped that by choosing 20-year-old Demi Lovato as a judge.
“We’ve made a decision this year, that we were going to bring in a whole new young audience. And that’s what we succeeded in and we grow from there,” he said.
Furthermore, the finale of this season will air this week, and People reports that the duet partners have been revealed.
Carly Rose Sonenclar will duet with country star LeAnn Rimes, Tate Stevens will sing with Little Big Town and Fifth Harmony will partner up with judge Demi Lovato.
