Now that Star Trek fans now a little bit more about the plot of J.J. Abrams’ second addition to the franchise, Star Trek Into Darkness, Paramount has released a one-minute teaser.
It’s actually an action packed ‘announcement’ teaser and tells fans to watch for a longer teaser on iTunes on Monday, Dec. 17. As Entertainment Weekly notes, some of the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moments include a large ship coming out of water and Kirk (Chris Pine) and McCoy (Karl Urban) running around a red alien field. There’s also shots of Uhura (Zoe Saldana) in tears and Spock (Zachary Quinto) running around 23rd century San Francisco.
There are also a few glimpses of Benedict Cumberbatch as the villain, who tells the characters, “You think your world is safe...It is an illusion, a comforting lie told to protect you. Enjoy these final moments of peace. For I have returned. To have. My. Vengeance.”
Last week, Paramount released the official synopsis for the film, revealing that the Enterprise crew will face an “unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.”
A nine-minute teaser is set to be screened before IMAX showings of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey starting Dec. 14.
Star Trek Into Darkness will be released on May 17, 2013 in 3D and 2D.
