Actor Stephen Baldwin was arrested Thursday on charges of unpaid taxes. Prosecutors say that he failed to pay his New York income taxes for three years.
Rockland County District Attorney Thomas Zugibe said that Baldwin failed to pay over $350,000 in taxes, reports The Associated Press.
Baldwin was arraigned today and released without bail. He pleaded not guilty.
“At a time when Rockland County and New York State face severe fiscal shortfalls, we cannot afford to allow wealthy residents to break the law by cheating on their taxes,” the DA told the media, reports TMZ. “The defendant’s repetitive failure to file returns and pay taxes over a period of several years contributes to the sweeping cutbacks and closures in local government and in our schools.”
Baldwin could face up to four years in jail if found guilty. He is due back in court on Feb. 4.
His attorney told the AP that he is innocent.
Baldwin is the youngest Baldwin brother and is best known for his roles in The Usual Suspects and Born on the Fourth of July. He is supposed to appear on the next season of NBC's The Celebrity Apprentice.
TMZ notes that he has had money problems in the past, filing for bankruptcy back in 2009. He was also ordered to pay a $75 fine in October for unlicensed driving in Manhattan.
