The X Factor season has finally come to an end, but not without an all-out grand finale! The final episode started with hosts Mario Lopez and Khloe Kardashian-Odom on the red carpet. Fans, photographers and flashing lights, surrounded them as the four judges, Pitbull and One Direction rolled up in flashy cars.
After everyone was inside, it was time to start the show. But in order to do so, they went back outside! The show opened up with the top three acts performing the hit song “All You Need Is Love” by the Beatles. They sang it on the red carpet as they walked into the arena, passing old contestants as they made their way to the stage.
After a quick break, Tate Stevens took the stage to perform the holiday classic “Please Come Home For Christmas.” When he finished, mentor L.A. Reid expressed how proud of him he was.
“I think that you’ve done an amazing job,” Reid said. “I wish you the absolute best tonight.”
Then it was time to take a step into Stevens’s hometown of Belton, Missouri. A video reel was shown of messages to Stevens from friends, family, Belton residents and old coaches. The messages were so touching, that Stevens had to try to hold back his tears.
“I can’t really put into words what winning this would do,” he said. “It would change everything.”
The girls of Fifth Harmony took the stage next to perform “Christmas (Baby, Please Come Home).” It was very clear that their mentor Simon Cowell was unbelievably proud of how far these underdogs have come, stating that he even developed a close friendship with the girls.
“I’m very, very proud of these girls,” he said. “My fingers are very, very crossed for you tonight.”
After hearing what Cowell had to say, a video reel was shown for the girls. Heartfelt messages from their family members and their friends played on the screen, making the girls very emotional.
“We’ve grown so close together,” said member Camila Cabello, “and we’re loving every second of it.”
Next it was Carly Rose Sonenclar’s turn to rock the stage with popular holiday song “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” Sonenclar talked about how she still couldn’t believe she was here.
“It’s pretty surreal,” the teen said. “I can’t believe it’s even happening.”
Mentor Britney Spears voiced how proud she was of the young girl and Cowell added to those praises.
“This girl has such a career ahead of her,” said Cowell. “We’re lucky to have found her on this show.”
Then it was time to see the messages from Sonenclar’s family, friends and teachers. Every single one of her supporters made it clear how proud they were of her and how they were going to continue to stand by her side throughout everything.
“It’s just awesome to get that support,” said an almost speechless Sonenclar.
It was then on to the results. The group Fifth Harmony came in third place and took the news with smiles on their faces.
“Girls, I love ya’ll so much,” said member Ally Hernandez. “You are my sisters.”
“We’ve gained more than five million dollars,” said Camila Cabello. “We’ve gained friends for life.”
Mentor Simon Cowell was so proud of his girl group and was very hopeful for their future.
“I have a feeling we’ll be hearing and seeing a lot more from these girls in the future,” he said.
After a montage of the past season, Pitbull took the stage to perform. He delivered a fun, lively performance of “Don’t Stop The Party,” that had the whole crowd dancing and cheering.
Then it was time for One Direction to take the stage. They performed their new single “Kiss You,” which had the crowd going absolutely insane. The boys were on The X Factor in the U.K. a few years back and made it into to the finale, so they know exactly what the contestants are going through.
“We just want to wish everyone the best of luck,” said member Liam Payne.
After their incredible performance, the two finalists took the stage to sing a duet together. Carly Rose Sonenclar and Tate Stevens came together to perform “The Climb” by Miley Cyrus. The song sent a clear message that both finalists could really relate to.
L.A. Reid then talked about how Tate Stevens is an inspiration for everyone out there, showing how age doesn’t matter when it comes to dreams.
“Tate stands as an example for everyone,” he said. “Never give up on your dreams. Anything can happen."
It was then on to find out the final results. After long anticipation and wait, it was finally revealed that Tate Stevens is the winner of The X Factor.
“This is the best day of my life,” said a tearful Tate Stevens.
“You deserve this,” said mentor L.A. Reid. “I’m proud to work with you. You represent The X Factor.”
The show and the season closed with new winner Tate Stevens performing “Tomorrow” by Chris Young. The past contestants joined him on stage for a touching ending to an amazing season.
Congrats Tate Stevens!
