Tom Cruise film 'Jack Reacher' and Fox's 'Parental Guidance' premieres cancelled in respect for the Newton school shooting

By Slater Katz,

Tragedy struck the nation Friday with the event of the Newton, Conn. school shooting. In memorial of the deceased, Hollywood is pausing all of the glitz and glamor in tribute of the lives lost.

Paramount Pictures and Fox Television Network have delayed highly anticipated events this weekend: the premiere of Tom Cruise film Jack Reacher and the red-carpet event for the upcoming film Parental Guidance.

Paramount says they postponed the Pittsburgh premiere of the action film in honor of the lives prematurely taken, according to NY Daily News. Promptly after the shooting, the studio released a statement expressing their condolences to the “families of the victims whose lives were senselessly taken.”

In addition, the red-carpet event for Fox's upcoming Billy Crystal and Bette Midler comedy Parental Guidance that scheduled for this evening in Los Angeles has been cancelled, according to the LA Times.

It’s heartwarming that all avenues of this great nation have been affected by the shooting and feel the need to stop the personal hysteria of every individual’s life to take a moment of silence for the deceased.
