Top 10 2012 songs

By Daniel Galperin,

2012 was a good year for music. It was a great year for new artists, including the British boy band invasion with One Direction and The Wanted, as well as Carly Rae Jepsen and Calvin Harris. It was also a great year for fairly new artists continuing to establish themselves, such as Nicki Minaj, as well as established artists, such as Chris Brown, Ne-Yo, and Train. Without further adieu, here is my top 10!

10. The Wanted “Glad You Came”

This song started the 2012 British boy band invasion. It was very catchy, had a great hook, and was the #6 Billboard 100 song in 2012!

9. Train “Drive By”

This song is special to me, because it made me a true Train fan. I started liking them with their 2010 Save Me San Francisco album and with the help of this song from this year’s California 37 album, which I like as well, I became a true Train fan!

8. Carly Rae Jepsen “Call Me Maybe”

Everybody had their own version of this song, including President Barack Obama, Miss USA girls, and Jimmy Fallon. It may have been the most popular song this year and was the #2 Billboard 100 song in 2012!

7. Pitbull featuring Chris Brown "International Love”

Pitbull and Chris Brown combined to create a great party song that was released in 2011 and continued to make noise in 2012!

6. Jessie J “Domino”

Another great up tempo song that was big in 2011 and 2012. It put Jessie J on the map and convinced me to get her Who You Are album, which I enjoyed!

5. Calvin Harris featuring Ne-Yo “Let’s Go”

Calvin Harris’s beat and Ne-Yo’s voice combined to make a great dance song with a
message to do positive things in your life right now.

4. Bruno Mars “It Will Rain”

This was another song that made an impact in 2011 and 2012. Bruno Mars poured out his heart and soul in this song. He wanted everyone to feel his pain if his girl would leave him.

3. Beyonce “Love On Top”

This is the final song of this countdown that made an impact in 2011 and 2012. As seen in the attached video, it made a splash at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, because Beyonce showed her pregnancy at the end of her performance. However, it was also big in 2012 as it was the #1 Billboard R&B/Hip Hop song in 2012.

2. Nicki Minaj “Starships”

I had some memories with this song, especially dancing to it at my friend’s bachelor party in Montreal. Nicki showed her singing and rapping skills in this song and producer Red One provided a great beat! It was the #9 Billboard 100 song in 2012 and “Starships were meant to fly!”

1. Chris Brown “Turn Up The Music”

This was my favorite 2012 song for two reasons. First, the beat is amazing, and second, Chris Brown’s great voice. This combination made it a great party jam!
