People around the world are anxiously awaiting December 21, 2012.
This date marks the end of the Mayan calendar, and to some, this is interpreted as the end of the world.
While rumors of doomsday have caused fear and paranoia for believers, others dismiss the idea, knowing that this day will go on just like any other.
Whether you truly believe the hype or just want to laugh at the apocalyptic theme, here is a playlist of the top 10 songs for the end of the world.
10. “Sugar We’re Goin’ Down” - Fall Out Boy
The end of the world has come sooner than we thought, but we won’t give up without a fight!
“We’re going down, down in an earlier round, and sugar, we’re going down swingin’!”
9. “The End” - Pearl Jam
This song ponders the future with uncertainty. Its aching delivery is heartbreaking.
Strongest lyrics: “I wanted to grow old. Just want to grow old...Give me something to echo in my unknown future, you see, my dear, the end, comes near.”
8. “In the End” - Linkin Park
Even this video seems otherworldly. Plants growing out of barren ground, a whale swimming in the air? Everything we know has been flipped around to be something different.
“Time is a valuable thing, watch it fly by as the pendulum swings.”
Don’t try so hard or worry so much, because "in the end, it doesn’t even matter."
7. “Die Young” – Ke$ha
“We’ll keep dancing ‘til we die.” Typical Ke$ha. We’re running out of time, but she just wants to have a party and celebrate.
6. “Mona Lisa (When the World Comes Down)” - All American Rejects
This song is so different than what you typically hear from the All American Rejects.
Simple. Romantic. Hopeful.
Sometimes all it takes to make you feel better is to have someone by your side.
5. “We are the Champions” - Queen
This is one of the most empowering anthems ever. We’ll be shouting it from the rooftops on December 22. Take that, Mayan calendar! "We are the champions of the world!"
4. “I Will Survive” – Gloria Gaynor
There’s no reason to be afraid or petrified! We won’t crumble. We won’t lay down and die. We will survive!
3. “Till the World Ends” – Britney Spears
Leave it to Britney to look beautiful even as darkness cloaks the city and the sky literally falls. She is yet another singer who encourages us to “keep on dancin’ til the world ends!”
2. “The End of the World” - Skeeter Davis
This melancholy, tragic, and beautiful song about losing love could also apply to our world.
“I can’t understand how life goes on the way it does… don’t they know it’s the end of the world? It ended when you said goodbye."
1. “It’s the End of the World” - R.E.M.
This is the best song to shrug off all the rumors and celebrate the ludicrousness of it all.
“It’s the end of the world as we know it, and I FEEL FINE!”
