‘The Vampire Diaries’ Recap: My Brother’s Keeper

By Freda Eang,

The annual Miss Mystic Falls Pageant has arrived and Caroline is busy as ever as she prepares the traditional event. While trying to prepare tables and decorations for the big day, Klaus walks over and inquires Caroline about the date she promised. Caroline tries to ignore Klaus, but gives in after he continues to linger. The two ended up having a great time with one another, with more sparks occurring than anyone can expect, which is bad news for Tyler. Looks like the sham the group is putting on for Klaus is starting to get quite serious and real. Under the pretense that they broke up, Tyler brings Hayley as his date to the event. There he notices Hayley chatting it up with Professor Shane and asks her about it, but Hayley claims that she was just trying to be friendly. We find out at the closing of the episode that she’s actually in cahoots with him, so we’ll have to see why Hayley is working with him.

Also, Elena cannot deny her feelings for Damon any longer and is all ogle eyes for him in this week’s episode. The two steal glances at one another throughout the episode, but nothing happens right away due to Jeremy’s hunter situation. After breaking up with Elena last week, Stefan has been feeling pretty down and low. In his attempts to find a cure for her, he grabs Jeremy and forces him to kill vampires in order for the Hunter’s mark to grow. This causes a situation not only for the pageant, since Jeremy is April’s escort, but for Elena as well because with each vampire Jeremy kills – the Hunter instinct in Jeremy becomes stronger. Jeremy almost kills Elena because of the Hunter in him, but thankfully Matt saves the day for Elena’s and April’s situation. April won Miss Mystic Falls by the way. With the current situation though, Jeremy and Elena cannot live in the same house, which causes Matt to move in and Elena out to the Salvatores’. Talk about lots of sexual tension and not to mention awkwardness in the room at the same time.

Elena and Damon get together at the end of the episode, but leave it to the writers to throw a crazy theory at us. As Stefan and Caroline are discussing about Tyler and how he’s almost done helping most of the hybrids become unsired to Klaus, Caroline sees a crazy connection to Elena. She makes reference to how strange and different Elena has been since turning into a vampire and her theory is that Elena is sired to Damon.

How’s that for a twist? Thoughts on the episode anyone?

The Vampire Diaries airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on the CW.
