Rapper Rick Ross was the target of a drive-by shooting on Monday, his 37th birthday, while in Fort Lauderdale. Fellow rapper 50 Cent took to Twitter to joke about the incident, saying that he thinks it was staged.
Ross, who was driving in a Rolls-Royce, was fired at multiple times, but thankfully he and a female passenger survived unscathed. He crashed his car into an apartment building to avoid multiple reported shots.
The suspects got away and police are still investigating. Police later confirmed that it was Ross behind the wheel.
Shortly after news broke, 50 Cent took to Twitter to make a joke out of what could have been a tragic story, notes Entertainmentwise.
“Hahaha fat boy hit the building?lol it looks staged to me. No hole's in da car,” Fiddy wrote, including a link to a photo of the car accident on Instagram. His comment has over 5,000 retweets and was liked over 14,000 times on Instagram.
“Hahaha that boy was spooked. I ride like OBAMA level 6 built proof, bomb proof, you already know,” he wrote in another tweet.
Others saw the drive-by shooting as a serious incident. Experts told MTV News that Ross should beef up his security going forward.
“I think this is a sad day for hip-hop because a lot of times we all partake in the entertainment of it, without realizing that hip-hop was always built on the foundation of realness and keeping it real,” The Source editor Kim Osorio told the site.
“I think the next step for Ross to take is security. Lots and lots of security,” RapRadar.com’s Brian "B.Dot" Miller added.
