Sofia Vergara isn’t just the sexy star of ABC’s Modern Family. The actress is working on a drama pilot that was just picked up by the network on Friday. ABC also ordered pilots for new dramas from House creator David Shore and Awake’s Kyle Killen.
Vergara’s project is Killer Women, an adaptation of the Argentine series Mujeres Asesinas. According to TV Guide, the American version will follow the only female member of the Texas Rangers. She’s dedicated to finding the truth, no matter who stands in her way. Vergara is set to co-executive produce with Martin Campbell. Hannah Shakespeare is writing the pilot.
Shore makes his return to TV with Doubt, a project both CBS and ABC had interest in, notes Deadline. ABC managed to get the new legal drama, which comes from Sony TV and stars a low-rent - but cunning - lawyer. While he uses his street smarts at work, he tries to win back his ex-wife and has to overcome his own demons.
The third pilot is Influence from Killen, who will write and co-executive produce. This will be a workplace drama focused on a pair of brothers who use human motivation and manipulation for their clients’ advantage. Killen is best known for creating Lone Star and Awake, two critically acclaimed short-lived shows.
