Adele and her father, Mark Evans, have always had a rocky relationship, but when he sold a story about the singer in 2011, she claimed she would never speak to him again. She’s held true to her word, and now her father is speaking out again in hopes that his daughter will want to reconcile with him.
Evans tells the Daily Mail that no matter how hard he tries, the Grammy award-winning singer won’t acknowledge him.
“I’ve left messages on her phone, I’ve written to her and I’ve sent her birthday and Christmas cards but it’s like I’m dead to her,” Evans says.
He also adds that he wants to meet his grandson, who Adele gave birth to this past October. “I’m not interested in her celebrity status or her money, I just want my daughter back and I want to be a proper grandad to the little one,” he says.
The two have never had a good relationship, given his alcohol problem and also the fact that he left Adele and her mother when the singer was three. However, Adele’s anger toward her father especially comes from an interview he gave in 2011 telling the media about his family’s past.
She then opened up to Vogue about the incident, saying, “How dare you comment on my life? It makes my blood boil…’I love her so much’? Really? Why are you telling me that through a newspaper? If I ever see him I will spit in his face.”
Adele is set to perform "Skyfall" at the Oscars next month.
