American Idol' alum Danny Gokey welcomes first child

American Idol alum Danny Gokey and wife Leyicet Peralta welcomed their first son, Daniel Emanuel Gokey, on Sunday, Jan. 20 at 9:52 p.m. EST.

The season eight finalist was thrilled at the arrival of little Daniel, who weighed 8 lbs 11 oz, People reported.

Gokey told People, “Leyicet and I are overjoyed to welcome the new member of our family. I’m ecstatic to be a first time dad and to have a new little buddy to hang out with.”

He added, “Thankfully, because of what I do, it will also allow me the flexibility to spend a lot of quality time with him. I have so many exciting projects ahead this year but a brand new baby is an amazing way to get the new year started. We feel really blessed!”

The 32-year-old singer also announced the news on Twitter writing, “Its Official, I’m a daddy!!! : )”

The proud new father has yet to post a photo of his new bundle of joy.
