'American Idol': Fighting and crazy nicknames take center stage

By Christopher Rosa ,

American Idol's third episode of the season aired last night, featuring a stop in Charlotte for auditions. However, it was not the contestants that were in the spotlight last night, but judge Nicki Minaj's bizarre nicknames for them as well as her on-camera fight with fellow judges Mariah Carey and Randy Jackson.

MTV reports Minaj had a strange nickname for almost every contestant. Names such as "Gumby," "Finger Licking Good" and "Lady Bug" caused #NickiNickNames to trend on Twitter.

MTV goes on to report several Tweets some of Nicki's followers had last night. One fan enthusiastically said, "#NickiNames Is Tending I Want One @NICKIMINAJ." Another fan pledged allegiance to Minaj as she Tweeted, "Nicki Minaj and her #nicknames are hilarious. I don't care what anyone says, i love her."

Minaj at one point during the show even gave the 3-year-old daughter of a contestant a nickname, aptly naming her "Dun Dun."

However, many fans tuned in to last night's American Idol to witness the highly publicized fight between Minaj, Randy, and Jackson. TMZ released a blurry video of the fight in October, but fans got to see the whole ordeal in HD last night.

MTV reports that after a tiring day of judging, Nicki felt that Carey and Jackson were judging a contestant too harshly. The fight escalated, leading the judges to jab at one another and Nicki storming off the set.

Fans can tune into American Idol every Wed. and Thurs. at 8 p.m. on Fox.
