'American Idol' winner Kris Allen gets into car accident, confirms he will be a father

American Idol winner Kris Allen has revealed that he was in a car accident on New Year’s Eve. In the same sentence, however, he revealed he’s going to be a father.

The Season 8 winner spent New Year’s Day in the emergency room after he and wife Katy Allen got into an accident. While he had broken his arm, his pregnant wife experienced a few injuries herself.

"Thank you @ford for equipping me with a car that kept my whole family @katyallen @ZorroPup and the little one we have on the way safe,” he tweeted yesterday.

Allen’s mother, Kimberly, even tweeted a picture of her son being wheeled away in a gurney.

"From Kris: he's in a lot of pain, arm broke, may not play guitar for a while," she wrote. "Prayers welcome please! #headoncollision."

Allen is slated to have surgery on Wednesday. He is the only male winner of Idol who has lost their major recording contract.
