First, Tina Fey jumped into the publishing world with Bossypants, now her best friend, Amy Poehler is joining her. The star of NBC’s Parks & Recreation is working on her first book, which will be due out next year.
According to The Associated Press, the Saturday Night Live alum signed a deal with HarperCollins Publishers’ It Books. The book is still untitled, but should hit store shelves in 2014. The publisher did not release financial terms of the deal.
It Books described the book as an “illustrated, non-linear diary full of humor and honesty and brimming with true stories, fictional anecdotes and life lessons, the book will be a unique and engaging experience from one of today's most talented and beloved stars.”
The Hollywood Reporter notes that It Books editor Carrie Thornton said in a statement that she was “blown away by [Poehler's] creativity and her passion.”
Books by female comedy writers have been all the rage in the publishing world, especially after Bossypants sold 2 million copies. Chelsea Handler, Mindy Kaling and Sarah Silverman have all written best-selling books. One is due from Girls’ Lena Dunham, which scored her a $3.7 million advance.
Poehler currently stars on Parks & Rec and co-hosted this year's Golden Globes with Fey.
