The new season of The Bachelor premiered on January 7 with Sean Lowe meeting the 26 women who will be vying for his love.
Sean Lowe, the 29-year-old quintessential family man from Dallas, Texas, was given a second chance at love. Previously, he was second runner-up and a definite fan favorite on Emily Maynard's season of The Bachelorette.
As the show opened, it was obvious Sean was very optimistic about his future prospects in love. "I'm only going to get engaged once. It's a forever commitment," he said. "I'm hopeful to find the love of my life."
Arie Luyendyk, one of Sean's former competitors on The Bachelorette, stopped by to give him some advice before he began his journey. Although they both eventually lost the love of their life Emily Maynard, the tension between them was still apparent. They discussed everything from break-up techniques (Sean wanted to be honest and direct) to the right way to say "Will you accept this rose?" to kissing style! Everyone knew Arie as the best kisser on Emily's season so Sean was not opposed to learning a few secrets. Arie demonstrated how to give a full body kiss where you use both of your hands, placing one on her cheek and the other running through her hair. He also advised against sloppy kisses with lots of tongue.
Next, a few of the notable women's home lives and occupations were introduced. Desiree, a 26-year-old bridal stylist from Los Angeles is tired of only helping other women walk down the aisle and is yearning for her own turn.
Tierra, a 24-year-old leasing consultant from Denver, Colorado, screams when she finds out Sean is the bachelor because both share the same values, including being very family-oriented.
Sarah, a 26-year-old advertising excecutive, shocks viewers when she is revealed to have only one arm. The other was amputated due to a rare condition when she was born.
Ashley P, a 28-year-old hairstylist from Macomb, Michigan, explains she already has a man in her life, Christian Grey from the erotic novel Fifty Shades of Grey.
Finally, it was time for Sean to meet the women. Cleaned up in a crisp suit, he waited as the limos started to arrive.
Jackie, a cosmetics consultant, was one of the first to emerge. She was eager to "put her mark on him" so she kissed his cheek with bright red lipstick.
The next woman to leave the limo, Selmna, however, had a tissue stuffed into the cleavage of her dress which she used to wipe it off.
Kelly, a blonde bombshell from Tennessee, wrote and sang an original song for Sean which he seemed to appreciate.
Robyn tries to show off her gymnastics skills with a back handstrip but falls on her head before she even reaches Sean.
After only speaking with Tierra for a few moments, he told her to wait where she was as he dashed into the house. Overanalyzing the situation, she worried she had already been eliminated. However, he ended up giving her the first rose of the night for her brief but impressive first impression which he described as her "contagious, magnetic, and sweet" personality.
Lindsay, the 24-year-old substitute teacher, revealed she was a prankster. It was definitely a shock for everyone- Sean included- when she turned up in a wedding gown. "Kiss the bride," she nearly commanded, giving him no chance to respond as she planted one directly on his lips. He laughed along with her but seemed uncomfortable.
After the original 25 women, Chris Harrison told Sean that there was an extra woman competing, one that had specifically called and asked to meet him. A final limo pulled up and Kacie Boguskie, one of the final four and America's southern sweetheart from Ben Flajnik's season of The Bachelor. Sean and Kacie had met previously at a Bachelor reunion but he had assumed they were only friends. He was open to the possibility of more, and welcomed her to the show.
She knew the girls would be far less nice, and she was right. They thought she had come to give them advice, but when they realized they were competing against her, they complained it was unfair because she had already had her chance with Ben.
Moreover, the girls grew more upset as the cocktail party progressed when they realized Sean was handing out roses as soon as he made a special connection with a girl. This was clearly bending the rules. During their one-on-one time, Jackie, Selma, and Sarah were saved. During a heartfelt moment, Sarah explained her condition to Sean, who promised he was not uncomfortable around her and admired her bravery and honesty.
Ashley P. got incredibly drunk and started dancing in front of both the girls and Sean. Her booty bouncing got her in trouble when she fell. She wanted to live out one of her 50 Shades fantasies as she brought a tie to use with Sean. He didn't appear amused, however.
During the rose ceremony, Sean had only seven other roses to hand out. They went to Amanda, Lesley M., Kacie, Kristy, Taryn, Daniella, and Lindsay. Eliminated are Ashley P. (who he nicknamed "50 shades of drunk"), Ashley H., Kelly, KeriAnn, Paige, Lacey, and Lauren.
On the preview of the entire season, Tierra is compared to Ben Flajnik's Courtney Robertson, the fake one the guy falls madly in love with. Moreover, a boy (probably an ex or someone she was seeing before the show) shows up for Jackie, and will not leave unless she goes with him. Kacie B. is pictured crying on a stretcher. "I hope the girls got what they wanted," she manages to squeak out.
