Barbara Walter was hospitalized Saturday after she slipped on a stair and cut her forehead.
According to Politico, the 83-year-old journalist was visiting the British Ambassador’s residence in Washington D.C. when the accident took place.
The 20/20 journalist was in D.C. just ahead of President Obama’s second inauguration which takes place Monday, Jan. 21.
Senior Vice President of ABC News, Jeffery W. Schneider released a statement following the fall saying, “Out of an abundance of caution, she went to the hospital to have her cut tended to, have a full examination and remains there for observation. Barbara is alert (and telling everyone what to do), which we all take as a very positive sign.”
Due to her hospitalization, she will not be back on air for several days and unable to provide coverage to tomorrow’s events, TV Newser notes.
It is unclear how long Walters will remain in the hospital, but it is noted that she could be off the air for several weeks depending on her recovery.
