President Barack Obama began his second term during Monday’s inaugural ceremony on the Capitol Steps.
He was sworn into office on Sunday during a private ceremony.
Approximately 800,000 people turned out to see Obama’s address.
“My fellow Americans, we are made for this moment,” he said, “and we will seize it-so long as we seize it together.”
Michelle Obama held the Bible as Supreme Court Justice John Roberts delivered Obama’s oath of office. Obama swore to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. Sonia Sotomayor, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, swore in Vice President Joe Biden.
Sotomayor is the first Hispanic person to deliver an inaugural oath of office, People reports.
Beyonce closed the 57th inaugural ceremony with a performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Kelly Clarkson sang “My Country, ‘Tis of Thee.” James Taylor also performed “America the Beautiful,” according to The Huffington Post.
The Obamas are big fans of Beyonce. At 2009’s Inaugural Ball, the President and his wife danced to Beyonce’s cover of “At Last.”
