During The Biggest Loser episode "Cutting the Junk" the players had a trivia challenge testing their knowledge about childhood obesity. Bob sent Dr. Joanna Dolgoff, a childhood obesity expert and pediatrician, to the homes of the kids Sunny, Bingo and Lindsay. Also, a new elimination platform was implemented.
At the start of the show Alison invited everyone into a room where there was a soda machine, video games, pinball machines, bean bag chairs and lots of junk food. The contestants were so excited at first, except for Pam who immediately went into her Chicken Little mode. Eventually, the contestants realize no good can come of this room, it's a room of temptation and regression.
Alison proceeded to tell the competitors that the best way to fight childhood obesity is knowledge. Therefore, the challenge was a quiz. The team that lost the quiz had to spend 4 1/2 hours a day in the room and not working out; which was a scenario that emulated most children's plight. The room was constructed to demonstrate these contributing factors to childhood obesity. The Red Team won, but Blue and White Team had a tie.
The Blue Team ended up losing the tie breaker and was subjected to the room punishment. The Blue Team was in the junk food for 4 1/2 hours a day, the amount of time the average kid spends watching TV, instead of with Bob. However, this room of punishment didn't deteriorate Bob's drive and faith in his team. Rather it convinced him they just to had work that much harder.
Bob, to help the kids, sent Dr. Dolgoff to their family homes in order to cut the junk food out of their lives, and to create healthier eating habits. Dr. Dolgoff tells Lindsay she has pre-diabetes, but diet and exercise can help rectify her condition. Dr. Dolgoff went throughout the kids houses and threw obscene amounts of "junk food" in the garbage.
The contestants approached the main challenge and what did they see? A huge carnival! In this episode's challenge each team member had to take a ten pound ball through an obstacle course with a bubble gum pit. However, first they had to traverse the course to the wheel, which released the ten pound ball. Then they had to traverse it again. The White Team did not compete, so the Red and Blue Team members each had to go across the course about four times to reach the goal of 20 gum balls. Every player on the Red Team got a free year of groceries for winning.
Lastly, it was a tense weigh in. On this episode the show had a brand new system, a voting room. The Blue Team's total weight loss was 2.81% (42 pounds) and the Red Team's total weight lost was 1.52% (20 pounds). The White Team's total weight loss was 3.31% (15 pounds). Pam was the biggest loser, as she lost the most weight (percentage wise, as Michael lost 13 lbs). Cate was voted off, she was eliminated with three votes against her.
The next episode of The Biggest Loser is on at 8 P.M.
