Brad Pitt joins Chinese Twitter, states 'Yup, I'm coming' despite ban

By Sarah Burbank-Douglas,

Brad Pitt has officially joined the Chinese Twitterverse, Sina Welbo, and after sending out his first tweet he has some heads spinning.

Daily Mail reports that Pitt sent out a message on Sina Welbo which reads, “It is the truth. Yup I’m coming.”

The 49-year-old actor is banned from ever visiting China after his role in Seven Years in Tibet was deemed inappropriate. The 1997 film, which was directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud, Pitt stars as the tutor of the young Dalai Lama. The Chinese Foreign Ministry took issue with the portrayal of the Chinese soldiers as well as the portrayal of the now exiled 14th Dalai Lama.

The message has since been forwarded more than 31,000 times and has drawn over 14,000 comments, The Associated Press adds.

It is unclear if Pitt’s travels are business or pleasure related, but the Daily Mail suggests that his travels may be related to his work with Chanel, as he recently took on the role of brand ambassador.
