Bristol Palin seeks protection from stalker who mailed engagement ring and knife

By Daniel S Levine,

Bristol Palin has sought a restraining order against an alleged stalker who sent her an engagement ring with a wedding proposal. In another letter, the man allegedly included a knife. The man also showed up at her mother’s house when she celebrated son Tripp’s birthday.

The Dancing with the Stars competitor filed for a restraining order against Michael Cummings, 39, of Texas, reports TMZ. Palin, the daughter of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, claims that she has never met Cummings. The first time she heard from him was when he sent a creepy wedding proposal that read “I (heart) you” and included an engagement ring.

She filed for the restraining order on Dec. 27, right after Cummings suddenly showed up at her mother’s door on Tripp’s fourth birthday.

E! News also reports that he may have sent a second note that included a knife, which police are investigating, but that hasn’t been confirmed yet.

Her manager David Martin called it a “very serious situation and we're not taking this lightly” in an interview with E!. Martin added that Palin is “very upset.”

Cummings’ mother told authorities that her son is "unstable" and that he had been searching for Palin.

The restraining order is temporary, but Palin’s attorneys requested that it be extended to “do everything we can to keep him away from her.”

This isn’t the first time Palin has received dangerous packages. During her first stint on DWTS, a package with white powder was sent to CBS Studios. Another package was sent last year during her second season on DWTS. In both instances, the packages were harmless.
