After months of rumors, Britney Spears and Jason Trawick finally confirmed that they were ending their engagement Friday night. Tabloids have already started speculating about the causes of the split, with one reporting that Spears had wanted more children.
“Jason and I have decided to call off our engagement,” the statement reads. “I'll always adore him and we will remain great friends.”
Trawick added, “I love and cherish [Britney] and her boys [Sean and Jayden] and we will be close forever.”
Sources close to the couple told TMZ that Spears’ desire for more children may have been what broke the two up. Trawick, 41, is described as being “in another place,” although he still loves Spears’ other children, Sean Preston and Jayden James.
Trawick, who was Spears’ co-conservator, watching over her affairs, also felt that he was losing his individuality, TMZ’s sources say. The Spears empire “took away his individuality.” He was apparently hoping that he could take on more clients and continue his career as an agent, but she didn’t like that idea.
The former couple will not have to deal with any financial matters following the split, notes TMZ. Although she recently bought a $8.5 million house in Thousand Oaks, California, Trawick has no claim to the property.
According to E! News, Trawick and Spears went public as a couple in January 2010, when they made their red carpet debut together. In December 2011, they confirmed their engagement, but as early as April 2012, there were reports that the relationship was in trouble.
