NBC is going ahead with a modern-day Hatfields & McCoys project that will be produced by actress Charlize Theron.
NBC bought the series over the summer, just days after Theron and Eagle Eye writer John Glenn began pitching it to the networks. Now, NBC took the next step on Monday, putting in a pilot order, reports Deadline. ABC Studios is producing the series.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the new series is set in modern Pittsburgh, where a mysterious death sparks the feud between Hatfield and McCoy descendants.
This series comes just after the History Channel had astronomical success with its Hatfields & McCoys mini-series, which starred Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton. Over three nights, the series averaged 13.8 million viewers.
Also on Monday, CBS ordered a pilot for The Surgeon General, reports TV Line. That series was created by Lie To Me’s Samuel Baum and focuses on the top doctor in the country.
